A rectangular wooden frame fitted on both sides with goat skin forms the resonator of this instrument. The single steel string is tunable with a wooden peg mounted on the long neck. The term Rabab is found in ninth and tenth century texts,and is the oldest known Arabic word for a bowed instrument Capable of a range of dynamic accents. This instrument is the essential melody instrument of the nomadic Bedouins; customarily played by the sha'ir, or poet-singer, to accompany heroic and love songs. A rabab player rests the instrument vertically on his or her knee and draws the bow across the string in a similar fashion to a cello player. Never handle the hair of the bow with your hands. Oils from your skin will be absorbed by the bow hairs and leave permanent slick spots on the hair. The bow hair, whether it is made of real horsehair or synthetic fibers, will be slick. In order to grab the strings it will need to be coated with rosin. Rosin is sold seperatley.

There are a number of string makers producing a variety of string sets that differ in the quality of the wire, the gauge or thickness of the wire, and the type of metal. If you are trying to decide which to use here are some guidelines. English and German makers tend to use high quality, high carbon steel; they are therefore more expensive than Indian sets. The trade off is that high carbon steel is also more prone to rust in humid climates. If the wire quality is the same, than thinner gauge wires are easier to bend when playing, than heavier gauges. The trade off is that you lose the lower bass notes with the thinner gage wire. When it comes to the type of metal, brass vs bronze, it is a matter of taste. Bronze has a warmer sound than brass. The trade off is that bronze is more "stretchy" than brass, so it goes out of tune easier.

This red baglama Saz is imported from Turkey. Usually 7 strings, two courses of 2, one course of 3. Tied, movable frets. Soft case included. They are all individually made and will vary slightly as well as the wood coloring and decorations may vary from the photograph.


Note: Whether you purchase an instrument on-line or from a physical store locally, it is recommended that you change the strings on your new instrument as soon as you receive it. The strings of an instrument both in a store or shipped to you are exposed to air and different environments prior to you receiving it. During this time the strings WILL oxidize, decreasing it's life expectancy and reducing the quality of it's sound. Ksink Ksink Djembe Resonators Overview

These Ksink Ksink's are 8 inches tall and 4 inches wide. Also known as Resonators, Kashink Kashink, Se Se or Segeh Segeh.

They are traditionally placed around the drum in a group of three as shown. These Ksink Ksinks are constructed from galvanized tin. They are shaped to resemble the shields used by the war drummer. Yes they are crude, but authentic. We were pleasantly surprised when we heard them.

Built in Ghana, West Africa by the drummers who use them. They have a very pleasant shaker sound. They are attached to the drum by slipping the stem of the Ksink Ksink through the top ring lacing. A strap can be added for extra security. The strap can be a piece of rubber or canvas webbing.
